Music Saves My Soul

One of the hardest parts of having any type of mental illness is that you don't feel normal compared to everyone else. You feel alone.

Being in a room full of people, even when I'm surrounded by people who care about me, I still feel alone. Crazy right? But feeling alone doesn't always mean that you are physically alone. I feel alone because I think no one will ever possibly be able to understand the emotions or pain that I deal with. I feel alone because I keep so much shit hidden, people don't really know me. I feel alone because other people would neverrr do things as fucked up as I have. I feel alone because I don't have a "normal functioning" brain. I feel like there is no one similar to me out there. And sometimes, I feel like there is no way out.

And then I'll hear a certain part of a song and think "Damn that's exactly me" or "I feel that." In that moment, I don't feel so alone. I am reminded that there are other people out there who go through the same or similar struggles. If I relate to it in any way, I will listen to it on repeat for days, and that makes me feel better. Music rescues me and I hope it can help you.
